As much as the news of the HTC Evo 4G launch is making the rounds this Friday morning, so is another story about the 4G smartphone.
According to Android Central, Google I/O attendees, who all received an Evo 4G, started reporting problems where they weren’t able to write to the storage card, which subsequently led to crashes and other issues.
Though a simple reboot or swapping out the card resolves the problem, HTC will be providing a more permanent fix via an over-the-air update. An HTC representative sent us the following statement in an e-mail:
HTC has investigated this complaint and has determined the root cause. HTC will be able to roll out a solution to users shortly as an over-the-air update.
Nice to know that HTC’s already on the case, and though there was no timeline given for the update, one Engadget Mobile reader said the update is already being pushed out.
Update: We just got word from Sprint that the update was pushed out early Friday morning. In addition to correcting the issue with the memory card, the update also includes a patch that fixes a potential security vulnerability. Customers who activate the Evo 4G today may be asked to perform the update; to manually install it, go to Settings > System Updates > HTC software update and follow the instructions.
Thanks to reader Brad for the tip.
