Had a bit too much Nokia today? Fear not, because LG has launched the Optimus One smart phone, a budget option that’s nevertheless running the latest Android 2.2 Froyo.
Along with the Optimus Chic, the LG Optimus One P500 was first shown off a couple of months ago. It’s a touchscreen phone aimed at people new to Android, and runs on a comparatively low-end 600MHz processor. (The high-end HTC Desire, by contrast, runs at a rapid 1GHz.)
The One also carries a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and 3-megapixel camera, which has fun features such as face tracking and smile shot. It will have a specially designed user interface, and an app advisor, which recommends you ten highly rated applications every couple of weeks.
Android 2.2 will give the phone advantages over devices running earlier versions, such as faster Internet browsing and better multi-tasking.
There are no details yet on pricing or networks, which might be crucial as there are more powerful Android smart phones out there at very reasonable prices. We should be getting it here in October.
The Optimus One is just LG’s first dip in the pool, as we already know the Korean company is planning to bring out a much more impressive sounding range of devices. Last month, LG said it was going to use powerful Nvidia dual-core processors for its high-end devices. The Optimus One is obviously not one of those.
We’re also expecting the new LG Optimus 7, which as well as carrying a fancy sounding Tegra 2 chip will also be running Windows Phone 7. It got an outing at trade show IFA recently, and features technology normally only found in TVs and games consoles. Other phones with the Tegra 2 chip will also come out before the end of the year.
Like fellow Korean firm Samsung, with its Galaxy Tab, LG will also release a tablet with Android before the year is out. LG has already made the bold claim that its tablet will be better than the iPad.
