Of all the major U.S. carriers, AT&T’s lagged a bit on the Android front but has recently beefed up its selection of phones with the HTC Aria, the Samsung Captivate, and now the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.
Long rumored for AT&T, the Xperia X10 will finally be available starting August 15 for $149.99 with a two-year contract. Much like the unlocked version, the smartphone has a 4-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen with Sony Ericsson’s User Experience Platform, which includes the Timescape and Mediascape apps. The former acts as a feed for all your social networks, whereas the latter gathers all your multimedia files into one place for viewing and interaction.
The X10 also has all the features we’ve come to expect from smartphones, such as a 1GHz processor and full wireless options. It even has an 8.1-megapixel camera with LED flash and smile and face detection, and 1GB of onboard memory and a 2GB microSD card included in the box.
Unfortunately, the Xperia X10 only runs Android 1.6 and there’s no word about an update. In early May, Sony Ericsson said it would deliver Android 2.1 to the X10 in Q4, but if we don’t see Android 2.2 in the works soon, the X10 might be a hard sell.
