You may be forgiven for thinking HTC only has eyes for Android — judging by the amount of buzz for the new Desires — but a new video shows us it hasn’t forgotten about poor lonely Windows Phone 7.
A sneaky tipster gave WMPoweruser specifications and video (below) of a new model with the name HTC Mozart. Its specs sound appropriately prodigious, including a 1GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 processor, a 3.7-inch WVGA Super LCD display, and an 8-megapixel camera with xenon flash.
Before Google Android made it a major player, HTC was best known for building smart phones based on Windows Mobile. With what you might call Microsoft’s unenforced absence from the smart phone market, it has become a leading light with Android, creating a succession of lauded phones such as the Hero, Legend and Desire.
But Microsoft is back with Windows Phone 7, which is tipped for a potential October launch. And it obviously doesn’t mind HTC fooling around with Google, as we also saw the HTC T8788 last month.
Redmond has a hell of a lot of ground to make up on its rivals, but from various leaks we already know manufacturers such as Samsung and LG have jumped on board and are ready to pump out Windows Phone 7 handsets.
Microsoft is hoping gaming and music will be its trump cards, with Zune Pass bringing streamed music to the mobile OS for £9 per month, as well as a whole raft of Xbox Live features being available at launch.
Industry experts aren’t confident Microsoft can catch up with its rivals, however, with both Gartner and IDC predicting that Windows Phone 7 will be well behind its smart phone OS rivals by 2014. How do you see Microsoft’s chances?
