More photos of the Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone have emerged. The snaps suggest the phone is code-named Zeus, and show that it sports a solid chrome exterior that’s reminiscent of the BlackBerry Torch 9800‘s.
Engadget, which posted the photos, also mentioned a few other titbits. There are apparently multiple handsets in existence, running different versions of the Android operating system. It seems likely that the launch device will run Android Gingerbread.
The device looks like it can accommodate an 8GB microSD card, and packs at least 512MB of internal storage. The phone seems to be about as thick as the PSP Go.
Sony Ericsson hasn’t categorically denied or confirmed the existence of the handset yet. But, when the first pictures of the phone emerged, Sony Europe stated that they were fake, before quickly retracting that statement, and officially making no comment. It seems, then, that something is definitely going on.
In a blog post, Barry O’Neill, former president of Namco Europe, argued that we shouldn’t throw ourselves on tenterhooks quite yet. He said all the images we’ve seen so far show an Android phone with PlayStation-style buttons, rather than a proper PlayStation phone.
“I’d be very surprised if Sony Computer Entertainment (apparently a much closer entity to Sony Corporate than Sony Ericsson) would allow their PSP 2 launch plans be compromised by the release of an Android phone purporting to be a PSP,” wrote O’Neill.
