White Google Nexus S set to embarrass Apple’s iPhone

The Google Nexus S by Samsung could soon be available in white, cocking a snook at a certain fruit-flavoured competitor. Google’s second smart phone is currently on sale in black, but leaked photos show an icy makeover.

The front of the phone stays black, and the back is white, for a classy two-tone effect. That’s according to German website Bestboyz. Yes, despite the name, the link does go to a phone-news website — sorry to disappoint anyone hoping for hunks just waiting for your call to chat and date.

The Nexus S packs a giant, high-resolution AMOLED touchscreen, 16GB of onboard memory and a 5-megapixel camera. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and includes built-in app-free VoIP. Near-field communication is a bonus feature, but that isn’t a thing here in Blighty just yet.

If Google does unveil a frosty-white S, we can’t help but see it as a dig at Apple. Apple has been trying to perfect a white iPhone 4 for the better part of a year, and it’s still no closer to shop shelves.

The G to the N to the S is the follow-up to Google’s first smart phone, the Nexus One. The Nexus One was a bold experiment in selling phones directly to customers, missing out the network middlemen. And sadly, that didn’t work out.

Rival top-notch smart phones include the HTC Desire HD and the iPhone 4. Click here to see how the Nexus S fares against these telephonic titans in our Desire dust-up and

We’ve contacted Google to find out whether the white Nexus S will steam on over to these shores. It’s currently available through the Carphone Warehouse, but if you’re looking to take a ride on the S express then it’s all aboard at our Nexus S price comparison page.
