Dell Venue smart phone and Streak 7 tablet break cover

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a smart phone or tablet PC fan — Dell’s got your back in 2011. The company used its press conference at CES 2011 to show off the new Streak 7 tablet and Venue smart phone, both of which run the Android 2.2 operating system.

The Streak 7 is probably the more interesting of the two. It’s a 7-inch tablet PC in the Samsung Galaxy Tab mould, boasting 16GB of storage and a dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. This gives it some pretty exciting graphics capabilities, including console-quality 3D gaming and accelerated Flash playback.

The Streak 7 comes with a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera that’ll take high-definition stills and allow video calling. Speaking of which, the Streak 7 is designed to run on T-Mobile’s 4G network in the US of A and will come pre-loaded with T-Mobile TV, an on-demand telly service.

Dell also used its press conference to show off the new Venue smart phone. It’s a chunky-looking beast, with a large, 4.1-inch AMOLED display, curved, metallic sides and toughened Gorilla Glass, so it should be able to take a beating. Think of it as an armoured Dell Venue Pro that ditches the Qwerty keyboard and swaps the Windows Phone 7 operating system for Android 2.2.

The Venue uses Dell’s own Stage user interface, which provides a host of dedicated widgets designed to give you quicker access to your contacts, email, multimedia and so on. It’s powered by a 1GHz CPU, has an 8-megapixel camera and will connect to the wider world over T-Mobile’s 4G network in the US.

There’s currently no word as to when, or indeed if, these devices will make it to British shores, but the minute we know more, so will you.
