Developer Samuel Blanchard has coded a Game Boy emulator in Silverlight that runs on Windows Phone 7 smart phones. The question is whether you’ll ever be able to use it.
One of Windows Phone 7‘s strengths is gaming, thanks to Microsoft throwing its Xbox Live weight behind its new smart-phone operating system. What it’s missing, though, is Game Boy games.
Tetris might make its way to the Windows Marketplace app store, but you won’t be able to buy Wario Land while hell’s still anything approaching balmy. That’s why Blanchard has coded a Game Boy emulator for WP7.
Blanchard posted a video of it on his blog, showing trusty old black ‘n’ white Wario Land running on the thoroughly modern Windows Phone 7. We happily salute his technical ingenuity in getting the emulator running.
Would we buy it? We probably won’t have the chance — not on a non-jailbroken smart phone anyway. Microsoft is extremely unlikely to approve an app that infringes Nintendo’s copyrights, and Nintendo certainly won’t licence its famous games for other companies’ devices. Still, check out the video below.
