Looking to get your hands on an HTC Desire S, Wildfire S or ChaCha on a friendly unlimited-data tariff? Three has confirmed when it expects to start selling all three Android smart phones here in the UK.
On its Coming Soon page, the operator says it will start selling the Desire S in April, the Wildfire S in May and the ChaCha in June. No pricing has been announced for any of these handsets, although wannabe purchasers are invited to register their details for updates.
Three is actually the fourth UK operator to confirm it will be selling the three handsets, following Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange. The latter said last month that it will have all three in the second quarter of this year, which corresponds to Three’s dates. Vodafone and T-Mobile have merely said they will stock the phones.
What about the HTC Salsa though, the company’s other new Android smart phone? When unveiled at Mobile World Congress, it was promised a summer release alongside the ChaCha. None of the four operators above have mentioned the Salsa in their plans.
It’s possible, though, that the Salsa is coming out in July or August — Q3, in corporatespeak — so the operators might be biding their time to announce it.
As for the three devices the operators are selling, here’s a reminder of their key selling points. All three run the brand-new version of Android for phones — 2.4 Gingerbread.
The Wildfire S is the more affordable model, with a 3.2-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera and 600MHz processor. The Desire S is more upscale, with a 3.7-inch screen and 1GHz processor, but the same camera.
Finally, the ChaCha is a BlackBerry-style handset with a Qwerty keyboard and a dedicated Facebook button, included to help you share photos, updates and check-ins with the minimum of taps. The keyboard means its screen is 2.6 inches, while it’s packing a 600MHz processor inside.
