New Toshiba tablet to hit Best Buy soon

Best Buy

Toshiba’s upcoming 10-inch tablet may not yet have a name but at least it’s found another home.

Best Buy is the latest retailer to announce that it will carry the new tablet. Though no specific launch date has yet been revealed, Toshiba has been pointing to spring for the tablet’s debut, while Best Buy is promising that the device is “coming soon.”

Best Buy joins Amazon as another outlet that’ll carry the new tablet once it launches.

Following in the footsteps of the Motorola Xoom and other new and upcoming tablets, Toshiba’s device will come with Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It will also include the Adobe Flash plug-in right out of the box.

The new tablet will of course compete not only with its Android cousins but also with the Apple iPad 2. Toshiba executives have expressed a hefty amount of confidence in their product, arguing that their device is superior to the iPad in both price and features.

Powered by a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, the tablet will offer a 10.1-inch 1280×800-pixel, widescreen multitouch display capable of running videos at 720 pixels. The device will also feature an HDMI port, two USB ports, an SD card slot, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, stereo speakers, and cameras on both the front and back.

Toshiba has been touting other aspects of the tablet as well. The screen will use an adaptive display technology to change the brightness and contrast depending on the surrounding light. An EasyGrip rubberized surface will make the tablet easier and more comfortable to hold, according to Toshiba. The device will also come with interchangeable back plates in six different colors.

The battery is replaceable, while a separate docking station will let users hook up the tablet to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Just like its name, the price of the tablet is still unknown.
