When Samsung launches the Galaxy S II on the Telstra Next G network in the coming weeks, it will become the first HSPA+ compatible device, capable of downlink speeds of up to 21Mbps.
The 21Mbps figure represents a peak speed only; however, if the hardware in the Galaxy S II is similar to Telstra’s Turbo 21 modem, users could expect actual downlink speeds of up to 8Mbps, or speeds equivalent to a standard ADSL2+ home broadband connection. The top downlink speeds in the Telstra range currently only go as high as 14.4Mbps.
Samsung is expected to announce Telstra as one of its launch partners for its 2011 flagship Android handset this evening, alongside both Optus and Vodafone. Details around availability and pricing are also expected as part of the local launch announcement.
