The HTC Sensation is finally available, after an unusually short waiting period. The smart phone comes free on all Vodafone tariffs of £35 or more per month.
There are plenty of other packages, with varying minutes, texts and data, across 12-, 18- and 24-month contracts, if you don’t mind laying down some cash — up to £199 — for the handset. You’ll get at least 500MB of monthly data, with some plans offering 750MB or 1GB if you’re feeling particularly flush.
Vodafone customers who pre-ordered the phone should find handsets dropping into their laps any time now.
With other major networks expected to get hold of the Sensation in June, Vodafone has a head start of a few weeks. If you’ve got half a grand, you’ll be able to buy it SIM-free from the middle of June. If you want to use the phone on Three’s network, you might have to wait slightly longer to get it, but, on the plus side, you could be rewarded with a better deal on data.
We really liked the Sensation when we got our hands on it last month. It looks like the gorgeous HTC Desire S and can hold its head high among some of the other smart-phone heavy hitters.
Its Android 2.3 Gingerbread software is enhanced, rather than hampered, by HTC’s Sense 3.0 skin. If only we could say the same for other manufacturers’ user-interface tweaks.
The phone has a bright, 4.3-inch display and packs in the same 1.2GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor as the LG Optimus 2X and Motorola Atrix. The 8-megapixel camera with 1080p hi-def video-recording capability rounds things off charmingly.
