U.S. launch for Galaxy S II drawing near

Samsung has big plans for its dual-core Galaxy S II handset with a release to more than 120 carriers around the globe.

While last summer saw its predecessor, the Galaxy S, released with slight variations to all major U.S. wireless providers, this year’s offering should take a similar track.
A silicone smartphone case now on sale online is compatible with three mystery product names on file with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

So as it stands, the Galaxy S II should arrive at Verizon as the Galaxy Function, at AT&T as the Galaxy Attain, and at Sprint as the Galaxy Within. The name for the T-Mobile-branded Galaxy S II still remains a mystery at this point, possibly due to it having its own unique form factor.

I would anticipate Samsung wanting to unveil these new devices in one big press event, much like the company did for the Galaxy S. The hardware maker has made a practice out of holding private, invitation-only gatherings for its recent products so look for the trend to continue with its biggest launch ever.
