Prices for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 have leaked out by way of uSwitch.com. The website reports the thinnest BlackBerry ever will be free on a £30.64 contract from T-Mobile, or just over £35 from Orange, Vodafone and O2. Three will also be selling the phone, but its prices are still under wraps.
We’re suckers for a traditional BlackBerry, because of its fabulous keyboard. If you’re a keen typist and you’d rather fire off emails quickly than faff around with apps, a BlackBerry can’t be beat.
The Bold 9900 manages to pack the keyboard onto the thinnest case yet, which is only 10.5mm thick. That’s still chubbier than the thinnest touchscreen smart phones, like a 9.3mm iPhone 4. But for BlackBerry, it’s positively waifish.
The Bold 9900 combines the traditional keyboard with a touchscreen, with the latest BlackBerry 7 user interface that’s evolved from the one on the BlackBerry Playbook tablet. We haven’t used it on a phone-sized screen yet, but we loved the smooth, easy UI on the Playbook, even if it’s a slavish homage to the HP TouchPad’s.
There’s not much room for screen on the Bold 9900, but judging by previous ‘Berries, 2.8 inches should be enough for watching videos and surfing the Web without pain.
A 5-megapixel camera also shoots 720p video, and there’s 8GB of storage to hold all your shots.
We’ve previously predicted that the Bold 9900 will arrive on shelves on 12 August, but uSwitch.com opines that the date could slide to the end of the month.
We think £30 and shrapnel is a great price for the freshest BlackBerry in the bunch — unless you’re allergic to the fruit altogether. Let us know in the comments section below if you plan to harvest one for yourself.
