ZTE Skate released in UK as Orange Monte Carlo

It’s Monte Carlo or bust for Orange’s latest affordable Android phone. The Orange Monte Carlo is announced today, powered by Gingerbread and packed with features.

The Monte Carlo is a ZTE Skate painted Orange. Not actually painted orange, but you see what we mean. It sports a 4.3-inch capacitative touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, and 800MHz processor. It packs 3G and Wi-Fi web connection, FM radio, and DLNA to connect to televisions.

It’s powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the latest version of Google’s software for mobile phones. You can install apps on the phone to personalise its features, and it comes with an Orange Wednesday app already installed for free cinema tickets.

The Monte Carlo also offers Orange Signal Boost, which piggy backs off any Wi-Fi hotspot to provide a phone signal where one otherwise wouldn’t exist.

Orange likes to name its phones after cities, like the Orange Barcelona, with its qwerty keyboard that contains a little smiley face button for quick emoticonotion. This week Orange also revealed the Stockholm, an affordable Android phone.

Other metropolitan mobiles include the Lisbon, Rio, PAYG Atlanta, and a citrus-hued version of the T-Mobile Vairy Touch II named Miami. Future city-themed cells include the Sydney, a PAYG dumb phone.

The Monte Carlo will arrive in late summer. The price for the new phone haven’t been announced, but it probably won’t break the bank at Monte Carlo.
