LG Optimus 3D on sale in UK tomorrow for £500 SIM

Two dimensions? Disgusting. As of tomorrow, we’ll care only about phones that can offer glorious 3D visuals, such as the LG Optimus 3D. It will be available from the Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy in a mere 24 hours or so.

You’ll be able to pick up the Optimus 3D, which displays 3D images without the need for dorky glasses, for free on a £35-per-month, 24-month contract.

Mathematicians among you will have clocked that, in total, this deal will set you back an embolism-inducing £840, so think carefully about whether you’d really make use of the Optimus 3D’s triple-dimensional tech.

You’ll also be able to grab the phone for £500 SIM-free, which, if you’ve got the upfront cash, is a much more palatable option.

We’ve toyed with the Optimus 3D extensively, and we’re certainly intrigued. The 3D effect is convincing, but is it the future of mobile tech, or a pricey gimmick? It’ll be going head to head with the HTC Evo 3D, which is also due in stores in July.

As well as its huge, 4.3-inch, 3D-capable touchscreen, the Optimus 3D packs a dual-core chip and two 5-megapixel snappers around the back. Tidy.

If you’re keen on the Optimus 3D but have a strong ideological objection to buying from Best Buy or the Carphone Warehouse — perhaps because it scrapped those adorable Mobley ads — the Optimus 3D will be heading to the rest of the UK from 6 July.
