Apple has reportedly completed a diagnostics solution for iOS that will enable users to send reports to Apple about their device remotely, obtaining useful tips and repair information when needed.
French Web site Hardmac reports that Apple has made the announcement of this new tool internally. According to Hardmac, the iOS device will connect to Apple via a special link (sent over e-mail or entered manually) and served in Mobile Safari as well as a connection to your phone service.
Apple will check your phone’s reports and offer a solution based on any software or hardware malfunctions it detects. For those of you concerned about privacy:
“The only ‘personal’ information that will be transmitted are the UUID of the mobile, its name and if one can call that of the personal informations, the daily calculation of the call time.”
The diagnostic tool will be able to determine:
- The health, level of load of the battery, duration passed since the last complete charge.
- The minimum level to which the battery was discharged.
- Which iOS version is installed.
- If the device was turned off normally the preceding time.
It is likely that this tool will be a part of iOS 5 or an update shortly after the initial iOS 5 release. Hardmac was not able to determine if the tool would be able to detect if an iPhone or iPad had been, or currently is, jailbroken.
Does this diagnostic tool seem helpful to you? Would you use it instead of making an appointment at the Apple Store? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
