HTC’s new phone — the Omega — has turned up on website PocketNow flaunting what appears to be Windows Phone Mango and a front-facing camera for all kinds of Skype video calling fun.
We heard earlier this week about the Omega and its massive 4.5-inch screen from a source at the company. The same source also gave word about HTC’s other new beast, the Eternity, although we’re yet to see any shots of that one.
A bunch of specs came with the leaked shot, which argues the screen will actually be a much more hand-friendly 3.8 inches. Also promised are a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB of RAM. None of these specs are officially confirmed though, so we may see some changes when it launches.
This isn’t the first phone from HTC to run Windows Phone — we’ve already got the HD7, the 7 Mozart, the 7 Trophy and the 7 Pro — but this is the first model we’ve seen running the latest version of the operating system Windows Phone Mango.
Mango is the first major update to WP7, packing in 500 new features, including integrated social networking, improvements to Xbox Live, and an upgraded Internet Explorer 9 that’s apparently more reminiscent of the desktop version we all ignore love so much.
The inclusion of the front-facing camera on the Omega supports rumours that Windows Phone Mango will support video calling, so rest assured you can happily video call all your friends to show them the totally adorable thing your cat is doing — the usual content of our video calls.
There’s no word on prices or UK availability yet, but the device is supposed to launch in the US on 1 September so we expect to hear more about it in the next week or so.
