Google Nexus Prime by Samsung is ‘blazingly fast’

The Google Nexus Prime is being shopped around by Samsung to show off the next generation of Android phones. According to an anonymous source, the forthcoming flagship Android smart phone is “blazingly fast” and its Ice Cream Sandwich software is a “major facelift”. Oh, and a Samsung Galaxy S3 is in the works too.

The anonymous leaker posted to 4Chan details of a visit to their office by Samsung representatives, bringing what they call a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus phone handled by the mysterious deep throat boasts rounded edges and a curved screen in an all-metal, 8.8mm body.

The original post has disappeared from 4Chan but is transcribed at Android and Me. There aren’t any photos, but we think it’s safe to say it’s a black rectangle. Squint at our painstakingly prepared mock-up above and you’ll get the idea.

The anonymous whistleblower reveals that the phone packs an Exynos dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 1GB of RAM. It stores 16GB of music, movies and apps in the internal memory (with SD card slot).

The screen is a huge 4.65-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen, which can display 1,280×720-pixel high-definition video.

The Nexus Prime will introduce the world to Ice Cream Sandwich, the next version of Android. Our intrepid spy reckons Ice Cream Sandwich is a tasty treat. “The menus are a lot nicer and smoother, screens have a ‘glassy’ look to them,” he says. “It just feels more polished with more animations (fast and smooth).”

Features include folders for your apps, previews of new widgets and shinier icons. The Gmail, calendar and browser apps have also been overhauled.

This is the second Android flagship made by Samsung, after the Google Nexus S. It could be the last: Google will likely transfer the privilege to Motorola when it ties up buying Moto. Motorola will get the first look at future versions of Android, and will probably have a crack at a flagship phone.

The original Google Nexus One was made by HTC.

The mystery leaker says Samsung is also working on a Samsung Galaxy S3, a follow-up to the hugely popular Samsung Galaxy S2. No details about that blower just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
