We may have had a peek at it already (okay, some lucky so and so in Thailand actually got his or her hands on it), but the HTC Amaze 4G has just become official. Known as the HTC Ruby outside the US, it runs Android 2.3.4, and has a 1.5GHz processor inside, TechCrunch reports. And its official appearance Stateside hints it could reach these shores soon.
The screen is a 4.3-inch affair at 960×540-pixel resolution, and it has 1GB of RAM, as expected. It’s no slouch in the imaging department either, with an 8-megapixel camera equipped with a dual-LED flash and 1080p video skills, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
It’s a pretty slick-looking device too, with rounded corners making it resemble a pebble. It’ll be one of the first handsets to run on T-Mobile’s 42Mbps HSPA+ 42 network, though that’s of no use to us Brits, unfortunately.
It’ll be on sale in the US on 12 October — there’s no word on a UK release (for the Ruby, as it’ll be known), but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s quite shortly after. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.
T-Mobile also announced it’ll be getting the Samsung Galaxy S2 in the US, and it too will work on its super-fast network.
Also at the event, T-Mobile’s impossibly American-named CMO Cole Brodman announced a quite interesting stat: 90 per cent of the phones T-Mobile sold in 2011 run Android. He said he’d quite like the iPhone 5 too (wouldn’t we all). Asked about the handset, he said, “The ball is in Apple’s court. [We’d] love to have the iPhone… whenever Apple lets us know.”
Sounds like T-Mobile won’t be one of the first to launch the iPhone 5, in the US anyway. Fingers crossed for a UK T-Mobile appearance come 4 October.
