At last, some good news for those long-suffering BlackBerry users — you can now get Spotify on your phone, thanks to a preview version of the BlackBerry app.
It’s only a preview at the moment, so you won’t find it on App World, but you can can give it a whirl by going over here.
All the features you’d expect are on board, such as the ability to listen to millions of songs right on your BlackBerry, either when connected or offline without a connection. Which will be handy should the entire BlackBerry infrastructure decide to fall over like it did recently. You can make and sync playlists, star favourite tracks, search songs, artists, and albums, and browse what’s new and what’s popular. You can also scrobble tracks to Last.fm, making it public what you’re listening to, and receive music in your inbox.
All-in-all, we are looking at a pretty comprehensive offering.
You will need a Premium subscription to stream songs from the Spotify catalogue, however, which’ll cost you £9.99 a month.
Spotify has tested the app on the 9780 Bold, 9700 Bold, 9300 Curve, 9000 Bold, and 8520 Curve. The Torch 9800 isn’t currently compatible, and there’s no word if that’ll change as soon as the finished app is out.
BlackBerry users suffered a three-day outage last week when RIM’s entire infrastructure fell over. RIM held a press conference to explain, but only after receiving a lot of criticism from customers. And it seems the only compensation they’ll get is free apps, rather than anything financial. Bit of a bum deal.
Spotify recently announced a deal with Facebook to bring streaming and sharing to the social network’s 800 million users.
