Following last week’s leaked pictures of the Atrix 2, we have some more concrete details, and the good news is there’s a new dock coming, and that it’ll work with other Moto phones too.
The Atrix 2 will have a 4.3-inch qHD display, 8-megapixel AF camera with single LED flash, and 1GB of RAM, according to This Is My Next. Pretty impressive stuff. It’s not scrimping on the storage either. It’ll come with 8GB on board, expandable up to 40GB thanks to memory cards, with a 2GB one bundled in the box. Sweet.
So, onto those docks. They all look to be the same as the original Atrix 2’s, apart from the Lapdock — by far the coolest of the lot, which transforms the phone into a laptop. The Lapdock 100, as it’s known, has a slightly different design, and while it doesn’t appear to have any new features, the screen is 10.1 inches across rather than the old one’s 11.6. That’ll translate as a lighter, more portable shell to carry round, effectively giving you a laptop that rivals the MacBook Air for portability.
The Lapdock 100 also connects to the Atrix 2 via a cable rather than slotting it in, meaning it’ll be open for other mobiles to power it. (Word is the Droid Razr will also be Webtop-enabled.) Which sounds pretty great, as your Lapdock won’t be redundant the minute you upgrade to a better phone. There’s no word if the other docks will connect the same way, but it’d certainly make sense.
Talk time and standby are pretty on a par with the original Atrix, and there’s no mention of LTE, though that shouldn’t bother us Brits, as it’ll be a while until 4G reaches us.
