Samsung Galaxy Nexus on sale 27 October?

With Android Ice Cream Sandwich due imminently, we expected the Samsung Galaxy Nexus — previously known as the Nexus Prime — to land pretty soon. Now word reaches us it could be in just three weeks. That’s right, 27 October is the day we’re hearing, which would give us plenty of time to flash it at Christmas parties.

The date isn’t official yet (hell, the handset has only been teased, yet to have an official unveiling), but Boy Genius Reports is naming the date as 27 October. It’s quoting Droid-Life, who obtained release dates for a number of phones.

That date, if true, could only be for the USA, so there’s no way of knowing if the Galaxy Nexus will reach our shores before the end of October. But we can hope. And it’d make sense to have a global rollout rather than staggering the handset’s release in different territories.

Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus has been teased in a video, and we’re expecting to see it unveiled on Tuesday at Samsung’s Mobile Unpacked 2011 event. It looks absolutely huge, supposedly having a 4.65-inch screen that’s Super AMOLED and a stonking resolution of 1,280×720 pixels. Despite its size, the handset should be just 9mm thin.

A 5-megapixel camera and 1.3-megapixel front facer are the order of the day image-wise, and it’ll shoot 1080p HD video. It’s no less impressive inside either, with a dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM and 32GB of in-built storage.

Basically, it looks like it could potentially wipe the floor with the recently announced iPhone 4S.
