Virgin Mobile has today launched new bring-your-own (BYO) phone plans, with pricing an even AU$10 per month cheaper than the same plan with a subsidised phone.
New BYO plan options exist across Virgin’s three pricing tiers: Big plans, Fair Go plans and its unlimited Topless cap. The AU$10 discount brings the cheapest plan price down to AU$19 per month, which includes $450 worth of calling credit and 250MB data on a Big plan. The Topless plan includes unlimited calling and messaging and 4GB for AU$79 per month.
All Virgin BYO plans are contract-free, with customers needing only to pay the balance of their account up to the end of the current billing cycle.
Competitor Vodafone also offers month-to-month SIM-only plans, but structures them differently. Rather than offering the same value for slightly cheaper, Vodafone’s SIM-only plans are slightly more expensive than plans at the same approximate price point, but include considerably more calling credit and data.
Telstra’s plan structure includes a BYO option, with the cheapest option starting from AU$49 per month. Optus only offers BYO options through its online store, and offers AU$19 and AU$29 SIM-only plans.
