Don’t look now, but we’re in that all-important final stretch of the year where retailers begin to pull out the big guns. Verizon, for its part, plans to overwhelm consumers with three of the top Android smartphones this November in the form of the HTC Rezound, Droid Razr, and Galaxy Nexus.
Glancing at the specs, any one of these devices could be considered a contender for top phone of the year, and as if these three weren’t enough to induce decision paralysis, Verizon looks to have even more in store for the last two months of the year.
A document said to be an internal Verizon advertising campaign calendar was leaked this week, giving us a peek at how the carrier plans to promote its lineup in November and December.
According to the details, the HTC Rezound and Droid Razr will be part of the marketing efforts leading into Black Friday. Although we have not seen official launch dates for any of these phones, we can at least anticipate them arriving in the days leading up to or after the advertising.
Also finding its way online this week is an upcoming Verizon rebate form that has tipped a number of additional models. One handset, the Samsung Illusion, is listed as having a $50 mail-in rebate, suggesting the phone will finally arrive in the next few weeks. Readers may recall seeing this phone leak back in September, thanks to a Samsung Flickr account.
A third set of Verizon documents tell us that we might soon be expecting a successor to the LG Revolution in the form the LG Spectrum.
Assuming these details prove legit, the Spectrum will be a global-ready 4G handset. It’s not quite clear when we should look for the phone, but I’d be willing to bet LG wants to put up something before the year runs out. The Revolution, although only nine months old, doesn’t have quite the appeal that some of the other devices do.
This shopping season will find a large number of original Droid owners coming up for renewal and new handsets. I’ll be interested in seeing which way customers go: Will they stick with Motorola and grab a Droid Razr or will the allure of Android 4.0 pull them towards the Galaxy Nexus?
