Good news if you own a Sony Ericsson Xperia handset (yes, some good news at last, boom boom) — as promised, Sony Ericsson is giving you a Christmas present of a year’s free 50GB cloud storage. Handy if you want to store those Christmas snaps for posterity.
All you have to do is download the Box app from Android Market, log in from your Xperia phone, and that’s it. You’ll be free to access your photos, music, videos and more from wherever you are, as long as you have an Internet connection. Happy holidays.
The promotion is live now until 31 December 2012, and applies to any Xperia model including and after the Xperia X10. So, that’ll include the Xperia Arc, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Ray, Xperia Neo and Xperia Play, among others.
“With people taking more pictures, listening to more music and watching more video on their Xperia smart phone than ever before, especially over the holidays, we wanted to make sure that they had the ability to upload their content to the cloud and share it across multiple devices,” said Steve Walker, chief marketing officer at Sony Ericsson.
Cloud storage is growing in popularity. Steve Jobs tried to buy Dropbox, though when it spurned his advances he did then slam it in a subsequent keynote. But that’s business. iTunes Match also came to the UK last week, allowing you to store up to 25,000 tunes in the cloud, and stream them to whichever iOS device you want when away from home. And don’t worry if you scoff at 25,000 — any already in Apple’s iTunes library won’t count, as you can listen to the Apple version.
