Vodafone Australia has confirmed that it is prepared to sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 if Samsung is cleared by the Federal Court tomorrow to release the device, following the court’s overturning of an interlocutory injunction on the sale of the tablet in Australia.
A statement from Vodafone suggests that it is prepared to have the tablet in stores before Christmas, if Samsung is given the green light to sell the tablet at 4pm tomorrow afternoon.
“We are encouraged by the news … and will, of course, be supporting the release of the Samsung Galaxy tablet as soon as we receive stocks and are in a position to begin selling it; hopefully the sooner the better as we race towards Christmas,” read the statement.
Vodafone will be hoping it is the only Aussie telco to have the Tab in its range before Christmas, though Optus was rumoured to be ranging the Tab 10.1 earlier in the year (before Apple and Samsung entered legal proceedings), and Telstra has yet to confirm whether the 10.1 was ever to be a part of its pre-Christmas inventory.
Also in doubt is whether any of Australia’s major electronics retailers are in a position to add the tablet to store shelves in the next few weeks. Myer had begun advertising the Galaxy Tab in August, with pricing starting from AU$579, but given the length and timing of the delay caused by the court’s injunction, it might be too late to stock the tablet and advertise the fact before Christmas.
