Just a few minutes ago, Google tweeted that the Samsung Nexus S, Gingerbread’s debut device, would begin receiving the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS update on a global scale as soon as today.
The over-the-air update applies to Nexus S phones that use the GSM/UMTS cellular technology. In the U.S., that means that the AT&T and T-Mobile versions are eligible for this first wave of updates, but sadly, Sprint folks will have to wait.
Though the push begins today, Google plans to release the update gradually, over “the coming month.”
Even though it may still be weeks before every Nexus S owner gets a chance to dig into Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s comforting to know that after all this waiting, a release schedule for this phone is firmly in place.
Here are some pro tips and tricks to learn while you wait.
