Sony’s lovely Xperia S may land on AT&T soon

A stunning Android phone that really does look like it arrived from the far future, Sony’s gorgeous Xperia S is likely to hit AT&T’s airwaves.

New reports assert that the Xperia S is making its way through FCC approval with a quad-band GSM/UTMS/HSPA radio (850, 900, 1900, 2100MHz). As tech blog Engadget deduces, that sounds a whole lot like the Xperia S is destined for AT&T and sadly not T-Mobile.

That’s a real bummer, since all the hot handsets these days seem to be landing at Verizon or AT&T: Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, Droid 4, Nokia Lumia 900, and Sony Xperia Ion. Add to this the Xperia S, and what’s a T-Mo subscriber to do but nab an unlocked device to experience some gadget love?

To be fair, it’s getting harder and harder to design a smartphone that stands out from the growing Android crowd. Sony, though, beat the odds with the Xperia S. It’s distinctively styled complete with a glowing clear band on its base. The phone’s 12-megapixel camera sounds alluring, too. I just hope the glory days of legendary T-Mobile handsets like the G1, G2, and even Galaxy S II aren’t drawing to a close.
