Nokia dropped a bombshell at its Lumia 800 launch today, announcing that the Lumia 710 will also launch in March with Optus and Virgin, with an outright price of AU$369.

The Lumia 710 is considered to be the little brother of the sharper-looking Lumia 800. While the 800 sports a unibody polycarbonate frame and an AMOLED display, the cheaper 710 is encased in plastic with a standard LCD. Under the hood, the handsets are nearly identical, with matching 1.4GHz processors and 512MB of RAM, although the Lumia 800 does come with twice the storage.
Optus and Virgin Mobile will range the Lumia 710 from March, and are the only telcos connected to the phone at this time. However, the Lumia 800 is confirmed for all three major Aussie telcos.
The Lumia 800 and 710 are the first Nokia handsets to run on the Microsoft Windows Phone platform. Nokia’s take on the Windows Phone experience will be expanded from those offered by its competitors by a small collection of unique apps. Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive will bring turn-by-turn navigation to the platform, with free maps for 95 countries around the world, while Nokia Music will deliver an alternative to the Microsoft-owned Zune music store, with 15 million tracks in its catalogue.
At CES 2012 in January, Nokia unveiled the Lumia 900, another Windows Phone, but with a larger AMOLED display compared to the 800. Nokia Australia representatives would not confirm today whether the Lumia 900 will be released in Australia.
