Look out Samsung Galaxy S3. You’ve got some fierce competition heading your way. LG is readying a flagship mobile with the code name D1L, according to Korean site DDaily, via The Verge. And it looks to be a whopper.
The screen is said to be a 4.7 incher, with a resolution of 720×1,280-pixels — equal resolution to what’s thought to be found on the Samsung Galaxy S3. The S3’s screen is said to be 4.65-inches though, rather than 4.7, but let’s not nitpick — especially considering neither of these phones have been confirmed yet.
Inside the D1L is thought to lurk a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. The handset is said to be LG’s first to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich on board, which is good news considering its current rollout plans. It’s thought to ship in May, so we might even see it before the Galaxy S3.
An anonymous LG employee is cited in the report as confirming the company is “developing a phone with a project name D1L” though they wouldn’t confirm any of the other details.
Could this be the magical mobile that thinks for itself that an LG managing director mentioned recently? I reckon probably not. The thinky phone sounded more at the concept stage, or very earliest at research and development level, so a May launch would be highly unlikely.
It would be great for the S3 to get some decent competition though. The S2 wiped the floor with other high-end Android handsets last year, so we’re expecting big things from the S3. It’s expected to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, though Jelly Bean will be just around the corner by the time it launches. It could be the world’s thinnest phone. And a 12-megapixel camera on the back is highly likely.
