Acer is hoping to sprint back into the tablet race with a special edition of the quad-core Acer Iconia A510. Like the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is the official Olympic phone, the Iconia A510 is themed around the London 2012 Olympic games.
Decked out in black or silver, the A510 sports an Olympic logo and lets you watch the games on the go. It comes with a free trial of sport-streaming app Eurosport Player, giving you free coverage of the games until 13 August. That covers the main Olympics, but not the Paralympics.
The A510 has the body of an athlete beneath that Olympic exterior. It’s powered by the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, backed by an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor running at 1.3GHz. There’s 32GB of storage and the battery is a marathon runner, with a claimed personal best of 15 hours.
The camera is a 5-megapixel snapper with auto focus and shoots 1080p Full HD video. Plus there’s a 720p camera on the front for hi-def video calls. The screen lets you watch high-definition movies and TVs too, with Dolby Mobile 3+ 5.1-channel sound.
If you’re interested, anyone who orders the A510 this month will be entered into a draw to win an Acer K330 Projector, worth £480.
Acer isn’t the only tech company to put a Games gadget in the starting blocks: Samsung is all over the Olympics, even offering tickets to people buying a Samsung Galaxy Note. Meanwhile, a free S3 is to be handed out to every athlete to pay for things by touching the phone to special NFC tills in shops across the Olympic site.
