The LG Optimus 4X HD is here, joining the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3 as the first quad-core phones on shop shelves.
The 4X will arrive in the UK in the next few days, although the exact date and price hasn’t been confirmed. It’s not on Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U or any of the major networks at the time of writing — honestly, it’s like they don’t want you to buy the thing.
But it is coming: the 4X is on sale now in Germany, and lands in the UK, Netherlands, Sweden and Italy in the coming days. Eastern Europe, South America, and Asia will follow later. Click play on our video below to see what the fuss is about:

The 4X HD packs a four-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, under a giant 4.7-inch touchscreen. The screen is a 720p high-definition display for watching the latest movies and TV in crisp detail.
It runs the latest version of Android software, Ice Cream Sandwich, with LG’s Optimus UI 3.0 front end adding custom shortcuts and voice control for the 8-megapixel camera.
With its high-powered Tegra 3 chip and 1GB of RAM, the 4X has grunt to spare. That means it’ll chew through intense, fast-moving, hi-def movies and games without breaking a sweat, but not everybody is convinced that phones need so much power.
Nokia, for one, claims that quad-core phones just waste battery, a sentiment echoed by Sony. They’re not even that keen on dual-core phones like last year’s Samsung Galaxy S2.
