Samsung has sent out invites to our American cousins for an event on 15 August — that’s a week on Wednesday.
And what’s this scrawled on the invite? Looks like a tablet to me. It couldn’t be the Galaxy Note 10.1 could it? I think it could very well be.
The event takes place in New York. There’s no word on a UK event yet, but I’ll update you as soon as I hear anything.
The invite encourages us to “Meet the new way”, which sounds a little cryptic. But the outline is unmistakeably a tablet, and it’ll come with a stylus, if those swirling lines are anything to go by.
We first clapped eyes on the Galaxy Note 10.1 — a super-sized version of the original 5.3-inch Note — back at Mobile World Congress in February. Samsung debuted the S Pen stylus along with it, for jotting down notes and doodling. It’s pressure-sensitive, and uses a button to control multiple functions.
Since February, Samsung has gone a bit quiet on the device, presumably because of its high-profile court case with Apple. Though it did add a stylus slot to save you losing the S Pen.
Samsung could hold back a European launch until IFA, the bratwurst-and-tech trade show that kicks off in Berlin in a few weeks. This week, invites went out for Samsung’s IFA press conference on 29 August.
The next day a Samsung spokesperson confirmed it’ll be unveiling “the next Galaxy Note” at the event. I’m taking this to mean the Galaxy Note 2, which is rumoured to be a 5.5-inch sequel with a faster processor and better camera, rather than the Note 10.1. But Samsung could decide to kill two birds with one stone.
Are you looking forward to the Galaxy Note 10.1? Can it beat the latest iPad? Let me know in the comments below, or on Facebook.
