Google Nexus 7 pre

Great news if you pre-ordered a Nexus 7 — they’re officially shipping now. If you signed up to buy yourself this slab of tech at launch, the postie could come calling with a package of Google tablet goodness any time.

It’s not such great news if you failed to pre-order though. Head to the Google Play store, and you’ll be faced with a shipping time of one to two weeks. Drat. Where’s that time machine?

The @googlenexus account sent out a tweet yesterday making the announcement: “Locked and loaded, ready to play: we’ve started shipping +Nexus 7 pre-orders today!”

One UK stockist, eBuyer, was selling the device until Google laid the smackdown and requested all sales be halted. Head to eBuyer now, and you’ll see the Nexus 7 has been put back to pre-order status. There are 500 of the tablets due in five days, according to the site. It only seems to have the 16GB version as well, so you’ll have to shell out £199, compared to £160 for the 8GB.

The official release is 19 July, which is Thursday.

Google announced the Nexus 7 last month at its I/O conference. It’s a 7-inch model, and comes running Android Jelly Bean straight out of the box, meaning ace features like Google Now and Google’s advanced Voice Search are yours for the taking.

The Voice Search looks like it shames Siri, with its lightning-quick results thanks to the power of Google’s search engine. While Google Now knows what you’re up to, and supplies you with information relevant to your situation. Get to a bus stop, and it’ll tell you when the next bus is due, for example.
