iOS could get Bluetooth file sharing

The killing of the YouTube app isn’t the only reported change in the latest beta version of iOS 6.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple also has altered the privacy settings by adding support for Bluetooth sharing. The blog doesn’t elaborate on what you’d be able to do with the feature, but the included screenshot indicates that it will be used for apps that share data over Bluetooth.

iOS 6’s Passbook feature may be just such an app to use Bluetooth sharing, but Apple would do well by allowing users to share photos, videos and other files without using a third-party app or an Internet connection. Though Bluetooth as a technology has long supported date sharing and many phones now have feature, Apple has not added such a profile to its handsets.

Whatever happens, though, the addition of Bluetooth sharing would be an important change to the iPhone that would bring its Bluetooth support in line with rival devices. Previous big Bluetooth changes included the addition of the A2DP stereo Bluetooth profile with iOS 3 in 2009 and an expanded Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) profile with iOS 4.1 in 2010
