iPhone 5 has new widescreen look in latest leaked photos

More snaps have emerged of the iPhone 5. The new iPhone is shrouded in secrecy, but leaked photos of a ‘test sample’ appear to confirm a new widescreen 4-inch look.

The photos originally appeared on Kitguru.net, only to be unceremoniously yanked shortly afterwards. That leads me to wonder if Apple’s legal stormtroopers have been on the phone, and lends a kind of speakeasy credence to the veracity of the snaps.

The snaps certainly match previous rumours and leaked pictures. The phone is set to be taller than the current model with its 4:3 screen, so it’ll be widescreen when you turn it sideways. That means you can watch films without black bars on the top and bottom wasting screen space, so you can make the most of movies and videos in 16:9, as nature intended.

The test sample also has a new-look smaller dock connector in the bottom, which means it won’t work with your existing iPhone dock or any of your charger cables. Great.

Apple is also reportedly working on a smaller iPad. Dubbed the iPad mini, the rumoured 8-inch tablet would compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire in the US and the new Google Nexus 7 in the compact tablet market.

Although it’s still a rumour at this stage, snaps of a smaller iPad have also started to leak to the Internet, also showing a smaller dock connector.
