It’s seems we’re one step closer to Samsung unleashing a new Galaxy Note smartphone or tablet at the end of this month. The South Korean company reportedly told Reuters that it’s debuting the next Galaxy Note product during an event on August 29.

“We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29,” a Samsung spokesman reportedly told Reuters today.

CNET reported yesterday that the highly anticipated device was most likely scheduled to debut in the near future, with predictions that the company might be unveiling a tablet-smartphone hybridalso.

This rumored second world version of the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Note II is said to include a larger, 5.5-inch display, a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, a 12-megapixel camera, and a newer version of Android.

However, before anyone gets their hopes up, AllThingsD is reporting that Samsung confirmed the August 29 event but did not say if any product will be unveiled. “We can confirm the unpacked event will take place on August 29th, but we cannot disclose information on what will be unveiled,” a Samsung spokesperson told AllThingsD.

It’s important to note that the August 29 date is just before predictions for the release of Apple’s new iPhone, which is rumored to be coming out as soon as September. Geez, can this rivalry get any more heated?

CNET contacted Samsung for comment. We’ll update the story when we get more information.
