We’ve heard word of the Galaxy Note 2 before, but now the benchmarks have leaked, Engadget reports. It’s not certain it’s the Note 2, but the device is listed as the GT-N7100, and the original Note was the N7000, so it looks pretty likely. The page was subsequently pulled, but PhoneArena managed to nab a screengrab.
The specs look mighty impressive. There’s just one thing I don’t understand…
The anomaly is the screen. The original display has a resolution of 800×1,280 pixels, whereas the sequel is listed as 720×1,280. Could that be right? Why would anyone release a follow-up with a lower resolution than the original? Consider that we’ve heard the Note 2 will sport a 5.5-inch screen compared to the original’s 5.3 inches, and something starts to seem a little suspect.
Otherwise it’s all pretty much as expected. The device is said to have the same quad-core Exynos 4412 processor as the Samsung Galaxy S3, clocked at 1.6GHz. The bad news is it’s listed as running Android Ice Cream Sandwich rather than Jelly Bean, but hopefully Samsung will right that before launch.
Previously, we heard the camera would see a bump up to 12 or even 13-megapixels.
The Note 2 is expected to make its debut at the German tech-fest IFA at the end of August. The original Note was unveiled at the event last year, so all signs point to it as the venue for the launch of the sequel. Then I reckon it’ll go on sale around October, just in time for Christmas. The original Note proved surprisingly popular, spearheading the trend for bigger phones.
