Motorola Motosmart gets smart for less than £100

You don’t need to be rich to smarten up your act — the Motorola Motosmart is an Android smart phone that costs just £99.99.

Yes, for a penny under a ton you can get smart with this 3.5-inch Android blower on pay as you go — or it’s free on a two-year contract that will set you back just £7 per month.

The phone packs a 600MHz processor with 512MB of RAM. The 3.5-inch screen has a resolution of 480×320 pixels and there’s a 3-megapixel camera. In terms of storage you get a paltry 165MB for your movies and music, but there’s a microSD card slot — which you’ll certainly need considering the pitiful amount of storage inside.

Software is provided by Google’s Android operating system, specifically version 2.3 Gingerbread. That’s not the latest version of Android by a long chalk, but more recent updates haven’t actually reached many phones, so most still run Gingerbread. You won’t get laughed at by your mates for having Gingerbread, but bear in mind that with the Motosmart’s modest specs it may not be able to handle future updates.

At this bargainous price, Motorola’s new budget blower competes with the likes of the HTC Desire C, the T-Mobile Vivacity and the Orange San Francisco 2.

We’ve given the Motosmart a quick fondle to see how it shapes up — read our Motorola Motosmart hands-on preview here.
