Apparently Verizon Wireless has been offering users several high-GB data plans without publicly announcing it. According to Computerworld, a company spokesperson confirmed that the carrier is giving users a choice of five more data tiers for their family plans than those previously announced with Share Everything.
The five tiers have been offered to customers since June through customer service on the phone or in stores. They include, 12GB for $110 a month, 14GB for $120 a month, 16GB for $130 a month, 18 GB for $140 a month, and $150 for 20GB a month, according to Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney.
“The 20GB plans have been available since we launched the Shared Data Plans,” Raney told CNET. “In addition to the 20GB plan, we have other options for customers.”
None of this information is available on Verizon’s Web site. Just the original six plans are offered, which range from 1GB for $50 a month to 10GB for $100 a month. According to Computerworld, the Verizon spokesperson said the high data plans aren’t on the Web site to keep it “simple” and because “the majority of customers use under 2GB a month. Who would need 20GB?”

- Verizon unveils ‘Share Everything’ family plans for data
Verizon launched Share Everything in June to mixed reception. The new plans allowed for unlimited voice, text messages, and a set amount of data for up to 10 devices — they also marked the end of unlimited data for many.
While Verizon no longer offered unlimited data as an option, millions still had no cap owing to a grandfathered plan. But since the launch of Share Everything, customers who take a subsidy when upgrading to a new phone must forfeit their unlimited plan and switch to a new capped one.
It seems these previously unannounced high data tiers may be welcome news to some of those high data users begrudging the loss of unlimited data.
