Nokia Lumia 920 could be Everything Everywhere 4G exclusive

Nokia’s newly unveiled Lumia 920 could be the UK’s first 4G phone, with the Finnish phone-maker reportedly in talks with British network conglomerate Everything Everywhere to offer the new mobile exclusively.

Everything Everywhere, which comprises Orange and T-Mobile, has been granted permission by Ofcom to kick-start its own 4G network ahead of rival networks like O2 and Vodafone.

That headstart could see the Lumia 920 available only on Everything Everywhere’s networks, the Financial Times reports (paywall link), via the Wall Street Journal. A potential November launch for the phone is mentioned, which could be when Everything Everywhere plans to open the doors of the UK’s first 4G network.

The Lumia 920’s specifications page lists the upcoming phone as compatible with the LTE 1,800MHz band, which is the chunk of spectrum that Everything Everywhere will be using for its own 4G service.

I called Nokia to ask for more information and was told, “Nokia does not comment on any rumours or speculation.”

I wasn’t blown away by the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 920 when it was revealed by Stephen Elop and friends last week. While a 4.5-inch 720p display and dual-core processor are intriguing, Nokia’s newest phone will struggle to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and upcoming iPhone 5.

Should it prove the first phone to get 4G speeds in the UK however, that would make this mobile a more tempting proposition for early adopters keen to experience the speedy new connection tech.

Are you excited about 4G? Does the Lumia 920 interest you, or is this colourful smart phone too little too late from Nokia and Microsoft? Tell me in the comments or on our Facebook wall and hit play on the video below to take a closer look at the Lumia 920.
