Desi-i-i-i-re, as U2 might put it. The recently spotted HTC Proto prototype is reported to be heading for shops as the HTC Desire X (pictured left), named after not one but two phenomenally successful phones — the
HTC One X and the original HTC Desire.
Taiwanese retailer ePrice reveals the suspected specs, which suggest the Desire X isn’t as desirable as its namesakes. The original Desire and Desire HD were top-of-the-range objects of desire, but the Desire X is a more modest affair.
To kick things off, there’s a 4-inch LCD screen. Inside is a 1GHz dual-core processor with 768MB RAM, which is fair bit faster than the HTC One V, but nowhere near as powerful as the One X. It also boasts 4GB of storage and a microSD slot.
On the software front, the Desire X is powered by Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, which isn’t the latest version of Google’s software. Extra tweaking of the software comes courtesy of HTC’s own interface, Sense 4.1, slapped on top. And sound is souped up by bass-boosting Beats Audio software.
With its 1,650mAh battery, the Desire X weighs 114g, measuring 119 by 62 by 9.3mm. The curved back comes in blue or white.
The camera is a 5-megapixel job with autofocus, LED flash, backside illuminated sensor, F2.0 aperture and 28mm focal length. Video is standard definition rather than crisp high definition.
Word on the street is that the phone comes with 25GB of free Dropbox space for two years so music, movies and other files can be accessed online through the phone or on any computer.
