Amazon has updated its OS X app with some new features readers should find useful.
First up, Amazon’s new 1.10.3 version of Kindle comes with support for more OS X gestures, including panning and swiping. The app now supports Amazon’s Kindle Format 8 books, which deliver some improved formatting options. Heavy readers will be happy to discover that the app also supports larger libraries and will work much better with books that have bunches of notes and highlights.
Amazon’s Kindle app is the company’s Trojan horse into the world of iOS and OS X. Apple currently offers iBooks, a competitor to Kindle, but the iPhone maker allows Amazon to offer up its own service to iOS and OS X customers. The result? More choices for customers.
Amazon scored some headlines last week after announcing an updated line of Kindle Fire tablets, including the Kindle Fire HD, offering an 8.9-inch screen and 4G LTE service. Amazon also offered up the Kindle Paperwhite, an e-reader that comes with backlighting.
Amazon’s updated Mac app is available now in the Mac App Store.
