Limber up your fingers and toughen up your palms — a new smart phone with a whopping 6.1-inch screen has leaked on manufacturer Huawei’s website.
The new device — spotted by Chinese site MyDrivers.com and translated by UnwiredView.com — reportedly runs on a searingly powerful 1.8GHz quad-core processor with an impressive 2GB of RAM. The huge screen offers a full 1,080p resolution to boot.
That puts it just above the excellent Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in terms of power and screen resolution, making it possibly the most powerful phone in the world.
With a screen that mahoosive, of course, it’s debatable whether this thing truly qualifies as a phone, or whether it’s really a not-that-small tablet. The Galaxy Note 2’s 5.5-inch display stretches even the manliest of hands to the limit, so anything bigger would surely only be suitable for the giant at the top of Jack’s beanstalk.
There’s no word on whether the Mate also offers a stylus, like Samsung’s effort. Although styluses might not be the coolest things around, I found the Note’s to be extremely responsive and made sketching and writing notes a doddle. The included S Note software also helped turn it into a handy tool for serious business.
If the Mate doesn’t offer similarly helpful features, it will need to rely heavily on its impressive specs — and hopefully a lower price tag — to tempt gigantic phone fans away from Samsung.
There’s no word yet on potential pricing, availability or indeed if the thing actually exists, but I’ve contacted Huawei for more information and I’ll update this article when I hear back.
