Self-publishing is becoming a popular option for authors to distribute their work. Simon & Schuster has just announced a new service called Archway to tap into the market.
Archway will offer a number of additional services to lure potential authors from other self-publishing platforms, such as a concierge, which will direct each part of the publishing process and provide guidance along the way. Published authors will also have the potential to create custom book trailers and video content for promotion across Simon & Schuster’s video network partners, like Roku.
According to Paid Content, Simon & Schuster will be looking at sales from Archway titles and offering traditional publishing deals to authors.
Archway will go up against existing self-publishing platforms including Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing and Lulu. Royalty payments for authors published under Archway’s imprint total 50 per cent of net sales, subtracting any fees for distribution across platforms like Amazon or iTunes. Self-publishing packages start from US$1599 to US$24,999, depending on the title and category of ebook.
