Microsoft will release an over-the-air update for Windows Phone 8 devices in December, aiming to squash a bug in the code that has devices randomly rebooting.

Following on from user complaints on Windows Phone forums and from our sister-site’s own Mary Jo Foley on ZDNet, the tech giant confirmed the update in a statement.
“We’re continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting, and have identified a cause with our partners,” read the statement. “We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December.”
Hopefully, Microsoft can meet this self-imposed deadline and quickly restore faith in the new OS. The exact cause of the issue isn’t publicly known, though some users have been pointing to the beta version of Skype, which is, of course, one of Microsoft’s own products.
The timing of the update should almost coincide with another software update for the company, as Microsoft also plans to push out Windows Phone 7.8 to older devices next month as well.
