Huawei Ascend P2 leaked pic hints at 13

Huawei may be cooking up a super-skinny follow-up to its ace Ascend P1 smart phone, if a freshly leaked product pic is to be believed.

The snap of the sultry smart phone surfaced via Unwired View’s evleaks, and suggests (from the number on the back) that it packs a 13-megapixel camera into what looks like a very slim frame. We’ve heard nothing official from Huawei regarding the so-called P2 however, so take the image above with a pinch of salt.

Previously touted specs for the P2 include 2GB of RAM and a quad-core processor, both of which have become standard fare for high-flying mobiles. The 13-megapixel snapper is an interesting prospect, though Sony’s yet-to-be-released Xperia Z boasts the same size of sensor, as well as HDR video recording.

The display may be more intriguing — it’s hard to gauge the size from a solitary shot, but Unwired View reports this screen may measure a mere 4.5 inches, which could make the mythical P2 an option for those who like powerful Android mobiles, but aren’t impressed by palm-ruining enormophones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Xperia Z.

While some way behind the smart phone domination enjoyed by Apple or Samsung, Huawei is making a name for itself by building surprisingly powerful, impressively cheap mobiles, recently nabbing the number three spot in global smart phone sales.

The Ascend P1 earned four stars in our review, and while we criticised the cheap build quality, we couldn’t deny the slim design, decent screen and potent processor were all good reasons to buy.

The Ascend G300, meanwhile, was my go-to recommendation for Android on a budget for some time last year. Its follow-up the G330 isn’t quite so impressive, but still brings a capable processor and an appealing price tag.

Have you been wowed by any Huawei smart phones? Or would you rather stick with a more established brand like Samsung? Say so in the comments or on our Facebook wall.
