Is LG trying to throw a spoiler on the Galaxy S4 launch? And what’s the connection to the upcoming Ubisoft game Watch Dogs?
Another week, another leak — this one is purporting to be the next Nexus, according to Android and Me. The site said that its “unverified tip” has this new LG phone, codenamed Megalodon, as the possible Nexus 5 from Google.
The list of specs that came with the tip suggest a very powerful handset:
-
5.2-inch 1920×1080 OLED Display
-
2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
-
3GB RAM
-
16MP rear camera by OmniVision, capable of recording Ultra HD video
-
2.1MP front camera capable of recording 1080p video
-
3300mAh Lithium Polymer battery
-
Front stereo speakers
-
Qualcomm RF360 (LTE 150 Mbps & HSPA+)
It’s a big list of some very impressive features — almost as if LG wanted to knock a certain high profile Samsung phone down a peg or two.
Intrigugingly, the image on the phone in the leaked photo is from Watch Dogs, an upcoming game from Ubisoft. In it, the protagonist uses his phone to manipulate the computer systems that control the world around him, causing blackouts, traffic accidents, hacking ATMs and much more.
Could Ubisoft and Google be working on a product placement deal around the new phone for the game? Or will the handset come pre-loaded with some of the companion apps that Ubisoft has promised for Watch Dogs? Or is it just a completely random coincidence? We contacted Ubisoft for a comment about the use of its image, and we’ll update when we get more information.
One thing worth noting: the Nexus 5 is rumoured to be an October 2013 baby, which does fit in with the Q4 launch date currently mooted for Watch Dog. You can see a gameplay video for the upcoming title below.
