HTC Desire P and Q mind their manners in leaked pics

Two new HTC phones — the Desire P and Desire Q — have been unearthed in leaked snaps, hinting the company has two mid-to-low-end smart phones on the boil.

The Desire P looks set to be a 4.3-inch device with a dual-core 1GHz processor, Beats audio and a microSD card slot. An 8-megapixel camera is also said to be quietly occupying the P’s rear.

The Desire Q, meanwhile, is tipped to be rocking a 4-inch display and will be aimed at those buying their first smart phone, so expect modest hardware and a low price.

The pictures of the two phones surfaced on Chinese-language site android4tw, while Focus Taiwan reports the two phones will go on sale in Taiwan next month, citing two local telecom operators.

That might mean the Desire P and Q could be out of reach of UK phone shoppers. I contacted HTC to ask about the two phones and whether they’d get an airing in the UK, but was told, “HTC does not comment on rumour or speculation.”

The images above suggest HTC wouldn’t be bringing design or software cues from the classy new HTC One to these two new blowers. Indeed, the rounded styling and older Sense interface of the Desire P is reminiscent of the HTC One SV, which we recently reviewed.

The One SV wasn’t a bad-looking device, but is way more expensive than it should be in the UK, thanks to its 4G capability. If HTC can bring these two phones to Europe at a sensible price, it would have some extra ammo in its fight against the overwhelming might of Samsung.

What should HTC do next? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.
